If We Weren’t Afraid to Hurt Your Feelings: Hairstylist Edition
What we really want you to know about going ash blonde, split ends, salon pricing and heat protection
We work with hundreds of clients every month across all hair types, routines and goals. With that comes every kind of question, inspiration image and hair history. From AI-generated photos, filtered looks, box dye jobs and serious damage, our consultations are always grounded in honesty and care. We focus on what’s possible and what’s best for your hair.
If we were being a little more direct, here’s what we’d really say about going ash blonde, split ends, heat protection and more.
“Split ends won’t go away on their own.”
Split ends won’t magically heal. Once the hair strand has split, it keeps breaking upward. If you feel like your hair isn’t growing, it might be because it’s snapping off faster than it can keep length. Regular trims are essential for preventing split ends. A haircut every 6 to 10 weeks keeps hair healthy and strong. No serum can fix split ends. Only scissors can stop the damage.
“Bleaching won’t always guarantee ash blonde.”
Ash blonde can be a target, not a guarantee. Hair that’s dark, previously coloured or porous from damage may not lighten evenly. Heavily processed hair may not lift past orange. Those sleek ash blondes you see online are often filtered, AI-generated or achieved over several appointments. Maintenance is key.
We’re seeing more clients lean into creamier blondes. They reflect light better and suit more skin tones. Our job is to guide you to what works for your hair, not just what’s trending.
Going from black to blonde takes time, rest periods and serious home care. Fast results often come with damage, we won’t chase ash blonde if it risks your hair’s health.

“Purple shampoo can’t tone your hair.”
Purple shampoo has its place. But it’s not a toner. It won’t remove orange or correct uneven bleaching. Overusing it makes hair look dull and dry. It’s for maintenance, not correction. Use it once a week to keep tone balanced. If your colour looks off, it’s time for a salon visit. We deep dive on all things purple shampoo here.
“Heat styling without hair heat protectant causes lasting damage.”

Every time you use heat tools without hair heat protectant, you damage your hair.
High heat breaks down proteins, fades colour and causes split ends. Use a professional hair heat protectant like IN Good Hair Guardian Thermal Primer (which we sell in the salon, it’s one of our best sellers!) It helps shield your hair from harm.
“That Pinterest blonde inspo image? It’s probably AI or a wig..”
Pinterest is full of blonde inspiration that looks flawless. Many of those images are AI-generated, styled on wigs or heavily edited. They don’t show real texture or how hair reacts to humidity. They aren’t realistic goals.
Take a look at what a quick Pinterest search brings up for ‘blonde’. These images are all absolutely perfect because they AI generated.

At Love Hair, we only share real photos of our clients. The images below are not filtered or edited. These are results from professional stylists using salon-grade products, focusing on healthy hair.

Even real photos used for inspiration may not suit your hair type or lifestyle. We don’t copy an image exactly or blindly follow trends. Our job in your initial consultation is to talk through your options so we can create a look that works for you and your lifestyle. Book a free consultation and we’ll guide you through it.
“Our pricing reflects our skill, not just the time.”
Salon prices have changed. So has the industry as a whole. Prices used to be lower 15-20 years ago. But the quality of products, training and techniques has drastically improved in that time. At Love Hair, you’re paying for years of experience, continuous education and healthy hair long after your appointment. Learn more about how we train our team.
“Missed appointments hurt small salons”
A no-show leaves a stylist without a client and another client missing out. We wish we didn’t have to charge them, but deposits protect our time and help the salon run fairly and efficiently.
“Frizz is more than just weather.”
Humidity doesn’t help the fizz and we know Hong Kong can certainly feel like a sauna some days. But frizzy hair is usually caused by dehydration, damage and split ends. Frizzy hair treatments like Bhave rebuild, coat and strengthen the strands. They smooth the hair and prep it for big colouring sessions. We offer a Bhave smoothing treatment in the salon and a range of take-home products available in the salon.
“Colour fades faster on dry, brittle hair.”
If your hair is dry and brittle it won’t hold colour well and will fade faster. Pigment fades quickly when the hair is damaged. If you’ve been colouring or bleaching your hair for years we recommend treating the hair first, to help rebuild it. Healthy hair holds colour better. We share more details about how to avoid colour fading here.
“One session won’t repair damaged hair”
You can’t fix years of damage in one session. We’re not magicians. Treatments help enormously, but real change takes time and consistency with better routines, good quality products and patience. Want to start your journey? Read our guide about how to nurture damaged hair. Or book a free consultation and we can help you start the journey to healthy hair.
“Box dye isn't a cheaper alternative once we have to fix it!”
Box dye may seem cheap and easy in the moment. But in the salon we spend hours fixing colour bands, uneven tones and the damage caused by box dyes. It often takes multiple salon visits to get the hair back to a healthy state. Professional colour is safer and gives better results. This article on colour correction should hopefully help you step away from the box dye!
